Outstanding Distinction Award for AU Graduate Students: The purpose of this award is to  support and encourage students who are advancing their education. This award will be offered  annually in November. Recipients of this award will receive a $1,125.00 award as well as a letter of recognition. There are up to five (5) Outstanding Distinction Awards for AU Graduate Students  available.  

Students who will be graduating in the year in which the award with be rewarded are eligible for nomination, so long as they were an actively enrolled graduate student at the time of nomination. Staff of the Athabasca University Graduate Students’ Association are not eligible  for nomination.  

Nominee Requirements:  

  • Meet the minimum standards for remaining active in their program, as defined by the  faculty/program area in which the student is enrolled;  
  • Display a balance in his or her life commitments (school, family, work, and community  roles);  
  • Demonstrate leadership in his or her community (emphasis will be placed on leaderships  roles within the AU graduate student community). 

To nominate an individual for one of these four awards, please submit the required  documentation by October 15th.

Outstanding Distinction Award for AU Faulty
Please review this important information before submitting an application.

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge  and honour faculty who stand out because of their support, availability, and leadership. This  award will be offered once annually in November. The recipient of this award will have $150.00  donated to the AU library in the recipient’s name. He or she will also receive a certificate and a  $100.00 gift certificate to a restaurant of their choice. The candidate nominated for this award  must be an Athabasca University instructor who meets the following criteria.  

Nominee Requirements:  

  • Exhibit outstanding leadership;  
  • Exhibit outstanding engagement of graduate students by being quick to respond to  graduate student inquiries, actively and responsively engaging with graduate students,  and exhibiting diligence in marking and providing feedback with regard to assignments;  and  
  • Be active in a teaching role in the year of nomination (must teach a minimum of 3-credits  worth of graduate level courses). 

To nominate AU Faculty for this award, please submit the required documentation by Friday,  October 15th, 2021.

Outstanding Distinction Award for AU Non-Academic Staff
Please review this important information before submitting an application.

The purpose of this award is to  acknowledge and honour AU Non-Academic Staff who stand out because of their availability,  presence, and work ethic. This award will be offered once annually in November. The recipient  of this award will have $150.00 donated to the AU library in the recipient’s name. He or she will  also receive a certificate and a $100.00 gift certificate to a restaurant of their choice.  

Nominee Requirements:  

  • Exhibit diligence in responding to graduate student inquiries and requests (by email,  telephone, on web forums, etc.).  
  • Candidate makes an effort to be “visible” to graduate students by actively engaging with  graduate students, proactively following up on graduate student concerns and inquires,  and being consistent in communications and follow-up.  
  • Go above and beyond the call of duty in his or her interactions with graduate students  • Be a full- or part-time employee of Athabasca University’s Non-Academic staff, working  a minimum of 15 hours per week.  

To nominate AU Non-Academic Staff for this award, please submit the required documentation  by Friday, October 15th, 2021.

• AU Non-Academic Staff: The candidate for this award must be an Athabasca University non-academic staff member who exhibits diligence in responding to graduate student inquiries and requests (by email, telephone, on web forums, etc.).
2. In the case of the Graduate Student Award, a letter from the Nominee accepting the nomination (in the case of Faculty and Non-Academic Staff, the AUGSA will contact the nominee without identifying the name(s) of the nominators).
